Gresswiller

Description

You come across the village quite suddenly as you round a rocky outcrop at the entrance to the Bruche Valley. The church is the most interesting building. Its choir, the base of which is in the Late Gothic style, stands out for its main entrance with a lintel representing Saint Martin, sharing his cloak with a poor man (1523). Built into the surrounding wall of the old cemetery, a miniature Holy Sepulchre (around 1500) draws one’s attention. At the infants’ school, an orrery, an ingenious mechanism that simulates the movements of the earth, the moon and the planets, and shows the days and the months, can be viewed by visitors.
